You want to go and rescue it - mind you, people say that about all my pieces but however. I've even got a rave soundfont that's the saddest, loneliest sound ever if you just drop it into a New Age piece. Hawaii not!) It's church bells have never seen a church - but they're GREAT Tubular Bells! I've got a ton of soundfonts that are nothing to do with their names, so I've renamed them all as what I use them for. Keep the pan-pipe a little quiet so it's just the echo from the slide and you're home free. But - it's a GREAT slide guitar!! (If you layer it with the Hawaiian Guitar from Evanescence 2, they sound superb together. Does it sound anything like one? Nope, not even in the same city. For instance, Evanescence 2 has got something called a pan-pipe. My own take on soundfonts is this: listen to the sound, not the name. And add a little reverb and the sounds don't brush up too badly, you know? They're - er - rather large soundfonts - 1 gig each (sheesh!) but there's a program called Soundfont Splitter that splits the individual sounds out and Viena to recombine them into your own sets. Also, there's Evanescence and Evanescence 2. You can even use EQ to cut out the loud frequencies, making it sound quieter, not fake/false.

It needs careful EQ! But the effort's worth it.

If you want a piano to sit on top of the Edirol Orchestra - I know it's got one but again that's a bit soft - there's a lovely Roland 64-voice piano soundfont out there which I use all the time. You can run many instances without significantly using more memory/processor as after the first instance has loaded its sounds, the others all share the same soundset, they're not loading in their own separate set each time. All the instruments sound real - but some WILL need a bit of compression on if you want them to stand out. The strings are great - they used to get used in B-movies, once. The best - and now free - virtual orchestra floating around the Internet is Edirol Orchestral. Posted by Christopher John Ulrich Burke on Maat 10:59am in Music Technology
